Orthodontic treatment can be a pain sometimes, but there are things you can do to make the experience a bit better, like keep an orthodontic handbag with you. In your orthodontic handbag, you should have the following things:
· Orthodontic wax: Orthodontic wax is very helpful if your braces tend to poke and bother you. All you need to do is place the wax over the area that is bothersome and your lips and cheeks will gently glide over that area for the rest of the day.
· Lip balm: Braces can make your lips chapped and dry, which is why lip balm can be beneficial. If your lips start to feel a little on the not-so-moist side, just apply the lip balm and you’ll be good to go!
· Orthodontic elastics: If you are currently aligning your smile with the help of orthodontic elastics, it’s important to keep extras in your handbag. These elastics tend to break after being worn for a long period of time. So, when the elastic breaks, just replace it with a new one.
· Travel-sized oral hygiene tools: It is strongly encouraged to brush and floss your teeth after each meal and snack; that way your smile will remain clean and healthy. So, make sure you have a travel-sized toothbrush, toothpaste, and flossing product with you at all times.
Feel free to keep additional tools in the handbag that you think might help you as well, like a mouthguard, mints, and a numbing agent. The more you have in your handbag, the better your experience with braces will be. Dr. Carlos A. Tamayo and our caring Carlos A.
